Scholarship Disbursement Programme, August 31, 2008

The third programme of disbursement of scholarships to meritorious students was held under the auspices of Prerana, Mangalore in association with Vidya Poshak, Dharwad, Dhrithi Foundation, Mangalore, Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi and Bevinje Shridhara Kakkillaya Pratistana, Kasaragod on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Infosys Campus, Kottara, Mangalore. Three hundred and fifty seven students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasaragod districts were provided the financial support amounting to Rs. 8, 35,000. Of these, 334 were sponsored by the employees of Infosys, Mangalore under the aegis of Prerana, Mangalore, with an amount of Rs. 7,47,000. The remianing students were sponsored by various donors including Dr. Prabhakar H, Cardiologist at Mangalore, Drs. Ravish Thunga and Suchitra Thunga of Mangalore, Dr. Kishan S, Mangalore, Sri VM Sundar Rao, Manipal, Sri Ranjan Rao, Mangalore, Smt. Jayashree, Mangalore, Trustees of Dhrithi Foundation and from Vidya Poshak, Dharwad. Sri Ashit Mohan Prasad, IPS, Hon’ble IGP, Western Range, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri AM Prasad lauded the Employee Social Responsibility initiative of Prerana and enthused the students to make best use of such support to realise their dreams and to become betetr citizens.

Sri Govind Prakash of Prerana welcomed. Dr. Srinivas Kakkilaya, Secretary, Dhrithi Foundation, gave a brief introduction to the project and thanked Prerana, Mangalore for their whole hearted and noble gesture of supporting most of the students and for organising the event in the campus of Infosys, Mangalore. Sri Bhaskar CN, Chief of Infosys at Mangalore, spoke about the various initiatives of Prerana and assured of all support for the needy.

Sri GM Gumaste, Field Coordinator of Vidyaposhak, Dharwad, briefed about the ideals of Vidyaposhak and the methods of choosing the beneficiary students. He also administered the oath to all the students.

The support was handed over to six students by the chief guest. Sri Harish Pejavar proposed the vote of thanks.

Prof. Malini Hebbar, Prof. of English at St. Agnes College, Mangalore spoke on development of personality and skills and the art of communication.
